Alcoholism, abusiveness, self mutilation are NOT symptoms of attention deficit disorder. Where do people come up with this stuff? They are, however, symptoms of mental illness. It is tough when someone you love is going through that and all you can do is stand back and watch. Hopefully, you can convince her to go inpatient somewhere and get the help she needs that she probably doesn't think she needs. Be strong. Tough love is the hardest. Good luck.

Until she herself admits she has a problem and that is admitting it to herself not her family she will carry on drinking.
Sorry for being so blunt.

My uncle was an alcoholic and everyone tried to help him in many ways. He eventually admitted he had a problem and went to Alcoholics anonymous. He didn't touch alcohol for the last 15 years of his life.

I am an alcoholic, I have not drank daily for over 12 years but every time I go out and have a few drinks I find it hard not to drink the next day.

When I was at my worst it wouldn't have mattered to me what anyone said, when I hit rock bottom I had to climb out of it myself the only person who can help your sister is herself.

I feel really sorry for you and hope that you, as the surrounding family have a good support network with each other. Unfortunately, as with any addiction the first thing that must happen is that she recognises she has a problem and wants to sort it out.

For youself - you can go to families of alcoholic meetings. I think in this kind of situation u really need the help and advice of experts to tackle it. Go see your dr and get a list of numbers that you can contact and get professional information. Sorry if that sounds like a classic line out of a problem page, but probs the best approach.

I wish you good luck and hope that your sister gets better. Its a tricky illness to tackle.

Talk your local police and ask them about getting gaurdianship over her in order to get her help. Once you do that, then you can admit her to a hospital and she can't sign herself out. She will fight with you, but will be thankful in the long run I'm sure.

I think it is great you are concerned for her.

Have her comitted. I know it sounds harsh, but thats what I should have done for my daughter, I didn't and she drove and someone was killed in the other car and now she is doing Jail time. Your sister will fight you tooth and nail but, she needs help! I am sorry for what you are all going through, I do understand! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Family

Please look into you local Al Anon chapter. They should be in the phone book or online. They're for families of alcoholics and are associated with AA. They deal with things like this all the time and can offer your family professional help in your local community.

It's difficult but a lot of the time it finally hits someone that they have a problem and that it's dangerous to continue. I know his from experience but I sure as hell wouldn't listen to anyone at the time, I had to wake up to it by myself.

The only thing you can do is try to involve Social Services.

It can't be easy. Best of luck :-)
