also, my husband is orthodox, and we got married in the city hall, that is it. Does the orthodox religion say you have to get married in a church before god?

Hi...I am an orthodox christian and I am more than happy to answer ANY of your questions.
copticphoenix@yahoo.com.au
But in quick reference to your questions, here are some answers:
- Orthodox kiss the icons because it is a physical 'depiction' of the real thing. That is, given that we may never see or touch the lord or the saints physically, icons give us the feeling of gaining such blessings.
- There are various fasts in the Orthodox church, which one are you refering to? let me know and I will tell you when it starts
- Finally, regarding your marraige, yes, it has to be in a church, as this is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit that works through the sacrements, and marraige is one of those mysterious 7 sacrements.
God bless you my friend, I will await your response.

Eastern Orthodox is the original Christian religion as preached by the apostle Paul. He is the one that brought Christianity to eatern Europe. The Orthodox church does not have 1 governing body like the Catholics (Pope), it has heads of state (archbishops) in all main orthodox countries and they come together to discuss and decide what is best for the church and it's people. The Catholic church is just one Christian Religion that broke away from the original Orthodox church to form it's own branch of christianity with only one governing head.
I love being Orthodox due to the traditions reaching back to the time of Jesus Christ. I love that the priests are able to marry before taking their final Vows (then they cant be archbishiop), when they give you advise about sex/faith & marriage, they are truly talking from the heart, afterall they have their own family. They don't force you to convert to their religion and they don't ram it down your throat like some other religions, as long as you are christian and baptised, you are welcome in the church.
They do want you to marry in the church to be able to christen your child in the Orthodox faith. My husband and I had a private civil service, then we had a church service months later in the orthodox church.
My husband is Catholic and is also considering converting, he really doesn't like the Hypocricy of the Catholic church (his thoughts, not mine)especially after 10 years of Catholic Education. He doen't like that priests preech to you, but they are not preeching from experience, merely from what they have read.
You may find this interesting. If you convert, you are given an extra day of Gifts. It's called a nameday. You celebrate the day of your saint, the name you are given. There will be food and thanks given and also sometimes gifts thrown in. You will love it. Here is some info.

Religion is for governing the people with rules and regulations of daily life. Every religion has its own phylosophy, thoughts and consideration.
Regarding the arthodox think and thoughts, all the rules and regulations may not apply for all kind of people. Isn't it?
However, sometimes, the situatuion coincides the accident happened and most of the old people leads with same consideration for turure proofs and thus, orthodox is born.
In some cases, most of the orthodox thoughts are true, but we are not understanding the actual phylosophy about it and we consider it as orthodox.
That's why, first we need to understand it...why it is said as arthodox.

while you're speaking approximately talking with the lifeless then NO, it quite is not a perception interior the Greek Orthodox faith. in actuality, there is not any Christian faith in any respect, that i comprehend of, that believes in that form of stuff. it quite is named necromancy, and is going against all Christian dogma. Praying to the lifeless is precisely forbidden interior the Bible. Deuteronomy 18:11 tells us that any one who “consults with the lifeless” is “detestable to the Lord.” the story of Saul consulting a medium to strengthen the spirit of the lifeless Samuel led to his death “because of the fact he grew to become into untrue to the LORD; he did not save the observe of the LORD or perhaps consulted a medium for training” (a million Samuel 28:a million-25; a million Chronicles 10:13-14). for sure God has declared that such issues are to not be accomplished. the only thank you to talk with the lifeless, in accordance to Orthodoxy, is thru God. to illustrate, we pray to the saints....this could be a sort of communique in spite of the shown fact that it quite is not seeing and speaking and listening to them.

Religion is BS, do not let it run your life for you. Religion is for the weak-minded.....I thank Jesse Ventura for that tag line....he's right.
Worry about making a difference in this world, not about who recognizes what....
