30 miles is well within the normal approach limits for a sloping desent and approach, must be the wind direction (if you see more) if that's the only one, then it's a possible mechanical reason for that, I wouldnt worry. (FYI commercial jets that fly at 32,000 will start dropping many states away and by the time they are 30 miles out are low)

"Low flying plane...is it going to crash?"
Well, if you didn't hear one......
At 1,000ft? While it probably looked that low, I doubt that was the case, especially 30 miles away from the airport. You didn't state where you live, or if there were any markings on the aircraft (are you sure it was a 737?), so it will be impossible to provide much insight.
Certain areas of airspace are used for flight testing, but a residential area would not. I once has the Boeing flight test team fly under me in the 737-700 demonstartor (Southwest colors) at about 3,000ft (I was at 7,000) while over the Pacific coast near SNA. While very unusual, it was OK over the unpopulated area.
More details are needed. Try the flight tracker at this link for some ideas as to what plane it may have been (you can see radar tracks)- http://www.flightaware.com

howdy, I answer your question from the history of being a flying instructor and examiner on small airplane, and being an airline pilot. You did no longer point out the dimensions of the airplane, or what share engines it had. at the start, airliners actual under no circumstances fly "some feet above the timber", and by using no ability silently, - till they're in a dire emergency. if so you're able to have been on the fringe of the region of a considerable air accident, which curiously exchange into no longer the case. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, small airplane (quite single-engine), could fly low and silently now and lower back whilst trainee pilots prepare the thank you to handle an engine failure. if so the instructor could idle the engine at a greater physically powerful altitude and then prepare a so-called "compelled touchdown" maneuver that could convey the airplane to an extraordinarily low altitude in the previous including ability lower back. in accordance to policies this ought to additionally no longer take the airplane nearer than 500 feet to every physique, motor vehicle, vessle, guy/made merchandise etc yet once you have been in a distant section, that's attainable that the instructor pilot exchange into no longer conscious which you have been there. This seems the main in all likelihood concern. the different threat is which you observed a distant-controlled airplane (even perhaps a huge-scale sort of an airliner). those could be powered by using electric autos which make no discernible sound in any respect. Regards, Max

I wouldn't worry, it could have been a shift in the wind direction or a change in the route due to incoming traffic. You could also contact the nearest airport and as the air traffic controllers for an explanation. More information on air traffic control can be found at: http://www.ato.faa.gov/Locator/desktopdefault.aspx.
