Try freewriting technique - for 10-15 minutes without stopping write anything that comes to your mind. Don't stop! It can be anything - the main point is to keep writing. You can get very creative and you may come up with some threads of thoughts which you'll be able to use later.
It's a great warm-up exercise.

Just start writing about things you know about and like. Also, pick up 'The Elements of Style' by Strunk and White. It's a short book, but loaded with excellent writing tips.

The best way to start writing is to find/discover what type of writing is your passion. Or what type of writing do you excel most. Then, after discovering your passion, start every composition by making your outline. Make an outline first so that you can organize your thoughts and the content of your composition.
Forming an outline really helped me to make my essays excellent...

In order to become a writer you need to first learn how to take control of yourself.
Nothing will be achieved unless you take control of yourself.
So focus on personal development first.
That's my opinion.
Because really, it's all about how much time you're willing to put. You're venturing into a big project, so you will need control, once again, of YOURSELF.
