ive been asking alot of questions this week with my kitten, thank you for everyone who has answered and helped me. She started out with a URI (or so we thought) and yesterday she was taken in again and they noticed her ears were yellow and urine was dark orange. There was nothing i could have done and her chances where less than 50% even with treatment. I had her put down just because she was suffering so much. Just a word of advice for all owners with a small sickly kitten, have them checked twice! Most are born with it and nothing can be done, but it can save alot of heart ache for the owner and kitten.

You made a hard, yet necessary decision.

Best of luck if you chose to get another kitten.

I'm sorry .Just know you did the very best you could.I'm glad you stood up to the vets and didn't just take the kitten home to suffer and die in the end. You did the most loving thing you could for the kitten. It was a hard decision but you made the right one.

It totally sounds like FIP. I have had several kittens fostered from the shelter where I work that have gone that way.
It always stares as a URI, but nothing ever helps and they turn yellow, the chest fills with fluid, and they die.
FIP is a losing battle.

Jaundice involves the liver. Like hepatitis in humans, the liver isn't functioning properly. Sounds like your poor baby was born with a sickly liver, and never stood a chance. I applaud you for all your efforts and in you actually seeking medical attention for her. So many figure that an animal can just cure it's self, and it suffers needlessly. I hope your experience with your next kitten will be a much better one with a happy ending.

I'm so sorry to read about your kitten.

You can feel comforted by knowing that she died peacefully, and was loved till the end.

Best wishes for the new kitten that I KNOW will enter your life.

Kittens are wonderful animals and it's sad when they get sick and don't live from it. Goodluck with a new kitten if you decide to move on.
