You Dad is the one that is kidding. It can be easier for a Mum to admit feelings, than a Dad. Both your parents think you are perfect.

Truth be told, sorry to say but they are just exaggerating your existence in the hope to cover their imperfections as a couple.Perhaps somewhere, somehow they felt they shouldn't belong together and yet there YOU are as a result to that union.
Kidding or not, they will always be your parents no matter what so let them press their own creases.Never let those petty words come into you and feel inferior, insecure, depressed.
Comfort yourself knowing they are still together because You are a gift to each if not both. You are way too important to divide their attention to even more:)

The decision to have a child is possibly the most important decision one can make. If your parents are responsible human beings, they had many things that weighed out their decisions to have or not have more kids.
I think this is a case where they are both "joking" to avoid the issue with you. It's too complicated to answer in a car ride to band practice, so Adult humor is used instead.
Just my guess.

Every child is perfect in their parents eyes. And all parents joke and say they didnt want to make same mistake twice. they love you dont think otherwise you are fortunate they had you.

Honey it's true that you're a perfect child, but don't think that your father means that you are a mistake yourself cz he means mistake about maybe having more costs or anything else but he beleives that you're a perfect child.

Maybe they're both kidding!
Nobody's perfect and there's no way somebody can be a mistake either.
