this is a marketing thing and has been for yonks.
the position for the hands indicate a smile rather than a frown ,say at 20 past 8.
happiness sells .its the same as finding north with a didital clock.

Its meant to be a smile - making it a pleasing purchase?? A sales technique. Imagine a display full of clocks all with frowns lol

try to buy a watch after 9.50 am, like 10.15 then the hands will be on the ten and the 3.

I've never noticed that. I actually thought that any watch I bought was set to the correct time.
