I mean, really, they freaking hate us.

This is an EP sailor asking, so obviouly it isn't incompitance or a poor attitude as some have suggested.

I know your question is serious, but the "I mean they really freaking hate us" part was funny the way you worded it.
But what do you mean they hate you? I'm curious because my husband is a Chief in the Navy, and he loves the Navy, but I have heard him make comments it is different then what it once was, and they aren't as loyal to their people. He personally has been criticized as a Chief for being too easy on his guys. At one of his last Commands, his CMC told him he was an excellent Chief, but that he needed to put more pressure on his guys, and take less pressure off himself. My husband didn't agree...Perhaps it's part of the reason he hasn't made Senior Chief!!!
I'm sorry you're so miserable! I hope it improves for you!

Sorry DCVIPER6969, but I had to come back and add something after reading the posting left by Horndog68U. you sound like you served, but your information is mistakem. Sailors don't automatically get 30 days of free vacation every year! They have to earn leave time, if that's what you're talking about. That might have been a bonus when you sighed up, but my nephew just sighened up and wasn't promised 30 days of free leave, and my husband said he never got that either. As far as the medical and dental, thought it's a greatly reduced price and far less then what we would pay if we were civilians, the medical isn't totally free for family members. There is still a fee taken out of their checks each month for that. And the dental insurance is only free to family members if we are stationed overseas. Right now, we're in Italy, and when we moved here two years ago, it was the first time our kids and I got free dental. In the States, family members aren't seen by Military Dentist, and our coverage
is really not very good at all. As far as housing, you pay not directly out of pocket, but if you move in housing, money is again taken out of your check. You lose your housing allowance, and it's a lot! We moved off base over here, because even living in what you call free housing on base, we were having a hard time making it! We make a lot more now!
I will agree with you about holidays off, but you have that in civilian jobs too. Considering how much Sailors, especially those on a ship are gone, I think they should have more days off when they are in port, and it shouldn't count towards their leave time! My husband is no longer on a ship, but he travels all over because he's a ET tech, so he's always going off to fix some problem on a ship, and there are times he's away for a month, but when he comes home, he has to start right back at work, and we get no time with him. And I'm not bitchi** about that, I'm just saying that it's not easy! They should get them a few days of free leave when they have been away from home more then 30 days.

I can relate...having been in your sister service, the US Marine Corps. Of course, now that I'm out I have kind of a nostalgic opinion of it all, but when I was in I remember having times when I felt just like you do. And it seemed the more critical or important the job you were doing was, the more contempt and outright disrepsect you got treated with.( Largely from HQ & admin personnel, not from those in direct contact with you on a daily basis). I think that phenomenon has largely to do with the amount of stress everyone is under to accomplish various tasks ( think about it, whole careers loom in the balance of the outcome of a single exercise sometimes...and this is even more compounded now that we are at war.) But if it helps you to know this, I have an enormous amount of respect for you , the jobs you do and the naval service in general; many Marines feel that way...(but don't expect us to admit that in the E clubs!) You know what's funny? You'll probably wind up being a lifer...I wish I'd stayed in! Thanks for all you're doing. Be well.

The Navy doesn't hate the people that are in. Unless you are referring to the fact you still have to wear Bell bottoms.
The Navy need disciplined Sailors that they know they can count on in time of need. They need you to be strong and disciplined, and when you are strong and disciplined, they need you to be stronger and more disciplined.
You think you have it rough, take a look at the corps, walking everywhere with their packs on their back, actually getting shot at, and living under the hot sun while you enjoy the AC.

This is why a lot of us that see both sides like it better with the Marines. They are more disciplined, deal with much harder things, and don't whine about it.

Man up princess, stop whinning. Your in the best Navy, in the world, and you have it pretty easy.

why do you think the Navy is out to get you, personally? The Navy has been nothing but good to us in the past 12 years.

The Navy is not a feeling entity with emotions. It's a machine, comprised of several thousand individuals and regulations. It is incapable of hate.

Maybe it's your attitude. I don't care if your evals mark you as being able to walk on water.. if you have a crappy attitide, you will be miserable.

Hate you? 30 days paid vacation every year? (awarded before your first year is up, even!) A decent pension after 20 years of service? Almost every holiday is a day off? (O.K., there are exceptions, such as duty days and being underway) A somewhat reasonable advancement program? Full medical and dental care for you and your family? Housing for your family if you have one? (if you can get it)

Really? Is it something bad you have done before and are doing everyday proving your incompetence, selfishness, self-service, stupidity, lack of planning, lack of coordination, lack of common sense, bias, double standards, etc etc? Nobody hates anyone unless theres a specific and valid reason for it.

actually, it would mean there is more of a chance that you are incompetent and a bad attitude....if you were not a sailor, then I would suspect that you jsut didn't ahve a clue......now we all know why you would say such a thing, without telling us why you think such a thing.....
