I would always recommed the National trust campsite in the Langdale Valley, great site that takes dogs, and has two fanastic pubs within a 10 minute walk.
Bear in mind its either a bus ride or car drive into the nearest town for any major shops.
If you are into walking then is this great lots to do on your doorstep, without having to travel any where else.

Completely agree that the national trust campsite is an excellent place to stay. Got this photo on a short walk from the campsite, near a great pub the Old Dungeon Ghyll.
