The RSPCA send a home visitor to meet you and your family and make sure you know what it means to own a dog.
Some dogs they will not rehome to people with young kids, but the majority are OK. It all depends on the dog (and the kids!)
Your home will need to be suitable- i.e have a big enough garden and be secure.
Your lifestyle also needs to be suitable. They generally don't rehome to people who are going to leave the dog on it's own all day. So if everyone in the house works full time and no-one goes home at lunchtime to let the dog out in the garden then they probably won't think you are suitable.
Having a dog, and looking after it properly, is a bigger commitment and more hassle than most people realise. Make sure you've really thought about it.

Battersea or Dogs Trust. The RSPCA will think of 100 reasons not to let you have one....

Any of them, but they don't come cheap and they will come and inspect the accomodation that a dog is going to.
