Stres is one! When badly stressed you feel unwell and exhausted, yet of all you can't sleep! Being unfit, eating too late, no time to digest between meal and bedtime, and not eating regular meals. I'm bad for that because i tend to get so taken in what i'm doing i forget about eating then feel tired, really tired, bit sick-ish and i know the cause! My blood sugars are on an absolute low so i snack to make it better then swear blind i'll never do it again until ... Next day or so! Then i would say lots of people sit too long during the day, whether commuting (That is tiring as well) work etc. We feel too tired to go for walks, do things we like that would help us relax so we go to bed feeling tired, maybe grumpy at times, have a bad night because we're too stressed/bloated or whatever and then wake up feeling tired in the morning.

Everybody is different,so if you have more symptoms than just the feeling of tierdness, then i would suggest that you go to see your GP, But first i would just make sure that you ask your self a few questions like the following:- 1. Are you sure that you are getting the relevant number of hours sleep that a healthy adult should be getting?(which is 7-8hours a night),2. When you do go to sleep are you comfortable enough? 3.Is your sleep disturbed?(if so what is disturbing your sleep?) 4.Do you drink caffeine drinks or smoke just before you go to sleep? (as doing so could keep you awake longer due to the fact that your brain and body still has energy etc from the caffeine and nicoteine) 5. Is your bed/matteress comfortable enough for you, is it the write type of matteress? 6. Are you worried about anything? 7.Are you streesed out or have you got things on your mind that are troubling you? (All of these things although they might seem small to you at first can actually have a huge effect on the way your brain works, and can prevent you from sleeping properly and sometimes it can even prevent you sleeping at all)

Now you might think oh my god this woman is mad, none of this has anything to do with why i can not get to sleep at night, but you would be suprised to what kind of things can actually prevent you from getting to sleep or staying asleep or even sleeping undisturbed and silently at night. But do try it though, just ask yourself a few or all of those questions and if for example you do smoke or drink to much caffeine just before sleeping, try to deduct the amount even a little at a time and you may see a slight difference just from something as simple as cutting back on the smoke and drink just before sleeping.
Obviously if/when you do try these suggestions and you still find that you have exactly the same problem then i would suggest that you go to see your GP as i suggested earlier. Because no matter how big or even slight the problem/situation etc might seem to you or anybody else, your brain might think differently and although you are tierd and trying to fight your brain to go to sleep, Your subconcious etc may well be working so hard on the situation/problem and working overtime that this keeps you from sleeping properly or sometimes it can even prevent you from sleeping at all as i said before.
Anyway GOOD LUCK with sortoing out your sleeping patterns, i hope they improve as everyone regardless of what they might say NEEDS sleep to help there body's and brain's etc to function properly as well as food etc.

Lack of stimuli to the brain...boredom. In-attentiveness.
Dehydration..first sign of dehydration is "yawning".
Increase in the levels of serotonin..that makes us sleepy. It is the cause of many a car crash..especially after a night out or a night at work...usually within a 5 km radius from home too.
