He was similar to Ali in that he was so great defensively that he is not given as much credit for how hard he could hit. He had great speed and from all accounts was a very intelligent boxer.

Ring generalship, defense, stamina, good chin and will/heart.
He was years ahead of his time as far as athletic prowess was concerned.
This brings me to a point that I am always making about pre- Jackie Robinson baseball records. Think about Jack Johnson, Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson and then think about how different baseball records would be if they had allowed black ball players to participate in MLB.

Defensively he was considered to have the best defence in the heavyweight division. Smart, ring wise, could punch fast hand and feet and very brave. All attributes great fighters have that elevate above the next tier of very good fighters.

If they put every fight in his career it would be a 5 part movie and about 10 hours long. Micky didn't get KO'd by philips he was stopped on a cut. i was at the fight. The zab Judah fight was just a boring fight. why put it in the movie. i grew up in lowell and trained at the same gym as micky and it is Truly a remarkable story. if it was a 100% fact based it would be called a documentary
