I have two sons whom I home school and I am trying to find a decent English Grammar book or program that will be useful for both ages. Thanks.

try Jensen's Grammar:

or Easy Grammar:
http://www.easygrammar.com/index2.html

both are highly rated in the homeschool community. HTH!

[We actually use Shurley English, but I don't know if that's one you can start mid-stream ... we started it in 1st grade.]

I second the recommendation for Easy Grammar - they have a book specifically designed to start with junior/senior high students (I think it's Easy Grammar Plus).

Another very excellent program is Rod and Staff's English series. If you are going to use it, make sure you start at least a year or so BELOW their grade level, as it is rather advanced.

We were using Easy Grammar (ever since we started) and I decided to shake things up and switch to Rod and Staff, since I'd heard so many good things. I switched back to Easy Grammar after about 5 lessons because I thought it was the better program - R&S was just too much work/writing (I have two boys and so writing is a struggle, even if it is copywork).

I also recommend Easy Grammar! We switched to it last year and my kids asked me "Why didn't we use this in the first place?". They love it! It's very simple and easy to understand and it doesn't take very long to do. Once you complete the 7-12th grade book, you can just do their Daily Grams program which only takes a couple of minutes.

I taught two daughters thru high school...and they did very well with the A Beka Curriculum for Spelling and Grammar & Composition.
www.abeka.com (login as a guest and do a search by subject and grade level)
They did not like their Anthology Readers, we choose different literature books for that.

My parents used the Rod & Staff Publishing curriculum for English all through our many years of home schooling. Excellent stuff, and with Christian content.

My daughter is going in to grade 8 next twelve months. She likes to place in writing short thoughts so i'm getting a e book stated as discover ways to place in writing the unconventional way. with the aid of the tip of this methodology the new child has executed a novel.
