I am an MD here in the US. Starting after high school, it takes 4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, 1 year internship, 2 years internal medicine residency, (these last two are usually combined into one three year residency), and 2 years oncology fellowship. So 4+4+3+2=13 years after high school, if you go straight through. Many, many people take longer than this, due to inevitable delays.
