Depends on how long you have been smoking and the quantity as well.
After smoking the cells absorb the chemical substances of the tobacco and after a while these cells get used to that substance.
The difficulties that you feel when you want to quit is actually, because of that.
Your body (the cells) need it.This need appears in your mind.
I've heard quitting does not have a positive effect on the brain specially if it is a sudden quit.
Because the cells/ brain has been addicted to the substance (physically-psychologically).
Better see a specialist.

there is no simple solution to this but firstly you have to really make the decision to quit. You will need that to generate the willpower you need. Try to avoid situations where you would normally smoke (very difficult i know). Try to find someone who also really wants to quit to form your own little support network. I know people who have benefitted from the Nicotine gum you can get but you will need to try it and see if it works for you. Also change your mental approach to thinking of yourself as an ex-smoker. If asked "do you smoke?" always answer in the negative. It has been recognised that any practice carried out over a 6 week period becomes habitual so try to reach that popint without smoking. Set yourself small targets as well like not smoking for a day then a week and so on. You will need to set yourself a goal to achieve. And reward yourself at each stage when you achieve your goal. As the saying goes "inch by inch its a cinch" It will take a determined effort but you CAN do it. Good Luck

Unless you really want to quit you wont, you need a lot of will power especially for the first month, nicotine is an addictive drug, so you will get withdrawal symptoms. One way is to put the money you would have spent each day on cigarettes into a jar, then at the end of the week into a bank account, after a month or so, look at the balance, see just what you would have burnt away, then decide what you can do with the money, have a goal, such as a meal out, a holiday etc. watch the money grow.

The hardest is your social life, move out of the house, move away from home, move to another country or city. Start a new life.
Or, tell everyone you're quitting, if they love you, they'd be behind you completely. They can keep an eye on you when you're out. They would not give you a cig. They should be able to support you.
That's what I did and I'm using the gum as well. So far, I think it's great. Remember, smoking is not good no matter how you look at it, whoever tells you differently or doesn't support you is essentially not your true friend.
Also, start working out, swimming, join a gym, Yoga class, whatever to keep your mind off of it and keep fit as well.

join a smoking cessation program, ive heard that helps. You may need to isolate yourself from the fam and friends for a while to get
thru the initial withdrawl of it. As with any addiction u will go through withdrawl. Get some meds or replacement therapy. Make a list of all the reasons you want to quit and read them several times a day to keep u on track. Throw all of you cigs, ashtrays, anything that might remind u of it away. Work out often, drink lots of water, get plenty of rest and find something else healthy to replace the nicotine. Dang, Im a smoker, and I know exactly what to do to quit, maybe I should take my own advice eh? Good luck.

I trained as an anti smoke campaigner back in the military, in a bid to help the front line grunts quit smoking.
The ultimate gaurantee to quit smoking is as follows.
Urinate in a small bowl. Place a full twenty cigarettes in the full bowl, refrigarate over night. Dry out cigarettes the following morning, and place them back within the packet.
Smoke as usual. After three or four, you won't want to smoke anything again. Ever.

first you need to get the nicotine outside your system. it is what's causing you to crave even more nicotine. if you notice on others, after quitting for a week, people will likely succeed. but that's the hardest part, right? gettin the first week without smoking.
so what you do is gallbladder detox, get rid of the gall stones, get the toxins, including the nicotine contents out as quickly before you even crave for your next cig.
detox varies from one to another, but the one i'm tellingyou is with olive oil, all natural, easy, with the use of several tbspoon of epsom salt. you can find articles reg this detox in the net with those keywords.
1. mix three 8oz. cups of water with 4 tbsp. of epsom salt. then divide the mixture into four cups.
2. on any given day, eat/drink regularly until 2 pm, then you stop. don't drink/eat anymore. at 6pm,you take the first cup of mixture. and second cup at 8pm.
3. at 10pm, take a half of cup of olive oil, extravirgin, mixed with one squeezed lemon to aide the taste. (it's actually good). the lay down right away! sleep/watch tv, whatever, but keep horizontal.
4. at 6 am next morning, wake up, take the third cup of mixture of epsom water. then the last cup at 8 am.
5. you'll be a bit weak and going few times more than usual for number 2, but don't worry, all gallstones will come out, hence your bladder functions 100%to clean your nicotine and the rest of your toxins. you won't even like the taste of cigs anymore.
do this four times with two weeks interval. better yet, check out the sources.
good luck. workd for me!!

Try this.
One pack of your favorite cigarettes.
A dark room, no TV, no music, just something to read.
Windows and doors closed.
Smoke the whole packet in one hour. Do it, even if you feel nausea, don't stop. Just stick with it for the one hour.
I think that do the trick.
Good luck.
