First of all, have the doctors determined whether or not its cancerous? If so, what type? Was it inside or outside the kidney itself? Was it encapsulated or branched out? There are so many what ifs with kidney masses, everyones outcome is different. I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma (pappillary) in December 2005. I have had several cts since, and right now there is no evidence of re growth. If you are anywhere near the sate of Utah, we have one of the top specialists for renal cancer in the country here. If wanted, email me for his info. Most renal cell cancers do not take well to chemotherapy or radiation, therefore surgery to remove is generally the best option. Feel free to email if you have more questions, or just need someone to talk with dmckinner@yahoo.com

The outcome varies depending on the degree of metastasis. The 5-year survival rate is around 60 - 75% if the tumor is in the early stages and has not spread outside the kidney. If it has metastasized to the lymph nodes, the 5-year survival is around 5 - 15%. If it has spread to other organs, the 5-year survival at less than 5%.
For those that have tumor recurrence after surgery, the prognosis is generally poor. Renal cell carcinoma does not generally respond to chemotherapy or radiation.
Please see the webpages for more details on Renal cell carcinoma.

You should see the urologist doctor to convece ehether you are right hsave a tumor on your left kidney. The doctor can check your left kidney whether it is a tumor or a cancer.A tumor in certain condition can change to become a cancer. You must as soon as possible to consult to a doctor. If your tumor on your left kidney is growing fast you must go to a surgical doctor to bring it out of your body..If your right kidney are well it is good for you Having only one kidney can save your life. The two kidneys of my brother in law have been removed and one kidney of her son has been implanted to him 10 years ago and now he is still healthy.

Only an oncologist can answer that---chances of survival, I mean.
No one can guarantee being cancer free, but eating lots of fruits and vegetables has been shown to decrease risks of certain cancers, especially colon cancers.
