Anyone who grows up dirt-poor like I did knows that old jelly jars make the best glasses. And some of them are gorgeous. :-)

Well here in the south lots of people drink out of old Mason jars. I used to think it was such a country thing to do, but apparantly the whole shabby chic craze made it cool again for a while.

I think if you're going to do it, the wide mouth Mason jars in whatever size you like are best.

my husband and I have been drinking out of my family's old canning jars ever since we were married seven years ago. i prefer to use my mum's Kerr jars (regular mouth). Really, though, they are the same as most of the American canning jars you can buy in stores.

Ball is one of the most well known canning jar companies in the US. You can find various brands of canning jars on-line (like E-Bay or Cooking.com) or at your local retailer (like Wal-Mart or Target). Sizes vary from jelly jars (about 6 ounces) to quarts, wide-mouth or regular, and they are usually sold without lids.
