In the Jewish culture the swine are considered an unclean animal. Why did they drown in the lake? What do you think the water signifies? Matthew 8:28-33 or found in Mark 5 :11 thanks

He freed the man from the bondage of sin. The swine represented the filth of sin and the water represented the purification of the man. Just as when a man is baptized, being sumerged repsents the death of the old man's ways. Pretty much signifying a new fresh start.

the water may or may not represent anything...since the pigs were unclean, jesus was not wasting "food" by infecting the swine with the demons....he was probably demonstrating to others the magnitude of the demonic possesion by letting everyone see how many demons wre actually there....

it does match - at best, unclean spirits belong in an unclean animal, not people.

i think the demons thought they would ve safe in the pigs, but jesus had other ideas and let the pigs run into the water...

maybe the water part indicated that even those who are unlcean with unclean spirits can be "washed clean." I am sure when the pigs died, the spirits had to leave again and go looking for other bodies....

No symbolism necessary.

The demons had no business doing what they were doing. They should have been confined in hell, waiting for judgment.

They spent their time humiliating and possessing men, so Jesus allowed them to spend a little time possessing the lowest and most unclean creature of them all, pigs.

Then, he let them run off the cliff into the lake.

Once the host creature dies, the demon has little choice but to find another host, or return to hell.

Jesus' power and authority prevented any further possession, so those demons had no place left to go.

Water seems to have a negative effect on this type of being, as well. Reference Noah's flood and the reason God chose to use a flood, rather than some other form of destruction.

They're probably still confined in hell today, waiting for judgment day.

piglet is not unclean.he takes baths everyday and takes his scarf to the drycleaners every week.he has the drycleaning bills to prove it.the pigs didn't drown.they accidentally slipped into the water when they were standing on the plank.the water signifies cleanliness.if the pigs drown, the mud and flies on their skin will cease to exist too.the drowned piglet later has a bloated belly due to the water rushing into their lungs.the bloated belly signifies that the pig died with a full belly and didn't starve.you're welcome.
