Plenty to see historically being port for many years (museums, art galleries), tours, sightseeing, lots of shopping, cinema, great places to eat, drink and dance in the evening. Visit the website below for more information. I live in Fareham which is inbetween Southampton and Portsmouth.

I was born and bred there and yes it is a wonderful place. I would say that when I was 18, I couldnt wait to escape the bright lights of London, but now as a 40 year old, I can appreciate the town so much more. Southampton lies directly on the Solent, you can take a 20 minute hovercraft ride to the isle of white, or take the car ferry across which takes an hour. We have two wonderful beaches at Leap Country Park and Calshot Activity Centre (links below). Once in Southampton along with all the shopping centres, cinemas, casinos, etc, you also have the New Forest right on your doorstep. Im pleased to say that the New Forest ponies are looked after beautifully and they are a delight to see roaming the New Forest, which after all is their forest. The QE2 and the Queen Mary birth and leave from Southampton, there is a lovely small ferry service to Hythe from Southampton, takes 15 minutes and you can watch all the regalia of the boats. Also the Round the World boat race leaves from Ocean Village and returns to Ocean Village each year. Oh we have a great football team too.....tipped to gain their rightful place back in Premiership this season after a couple of bad seasons. Im sure you will enjoy it.

Hey. I live in Portsmouth and work in Southampton. West Key Shopping centre is a cool place to shop. I don't really know many tourist attractions or any good places to check out, sorry. But I can say that it's not a bad place to visit.

shop at at the 3 shopping malls branching off the high street.
do the southampton walks, you can do it alone by following the signs or there is a free guided tour @ 10am meeting at the bargate (you can't miss it)
Southampton is also where the titanic set sail from there are loads of mermorials around.
check out Leisure World in the evening it has 13 screen cinema, 2 resurants, 2 bars, 2 clubs and a casino all-in-one.

enjoy

the main tourist attractions are the quays swimming pool complex, west quay, st marys stadium and the docks. West quay has many shops for everyone as well as lots of food stores.
