I will go to the university soon, and since the university is 5 hours away from my house, I will have to move. I don't know if I should bring my cat with me or not. I mean, I know he loves me very much and would probably miss me, I would too. But he's used to living here, and I know he loves my parents too. There's also another cat where I'll live for uni, and my cat usually gets jealous when there are other animals. Anyway, I don't know what to do. I'd miss my cat very much though.
I hope this doesn't sound stupid. Opinions?

Let me be completely honest.
You sound to me as if you are being very selfish in wanting to remove your cat from an environment it is familiar with just to satisfy yourself so you won't be "missing" your cat.
If you take your cat with you, you will be placing him in an unfamiliar and hostile environment since there will be another cat that he may not get along with.
Let me ask you this...
What would be more important to you? To know that your cat is being well taken care of and is comfortable and will be there to love you when you go home for visits, or...
To take your cat out of where he is used to living now just so YOU will be happy?
What happens to the cat when you have to go to class? Who will be there to take care of him? Or will you just allow him to roam free and possibly get injured or into some other kind of trouble that you won't be there to help him with.
Leave the cat at home, go to live on the campus and look forward to seeing him when you get home for holiday's and other visits.
Besides, you don't need the distraction of taking care of a pet when you need to be concentrating on your studies.
Here's a suggestion...
You will of course have a computer and I'm sure you probably have one at home. Setup webcams on both of the computers and anytime you get lonely for your pet, contact mom or dad and let them hold your cat up to the webcam...you will be able to talk to him and he will be able to hear and see you...
problem solved!
Good luck!

I faced a similar problem when I left for college. I had 2 dogs and 2 cats at that time. I decided that what was best for them was to leave them in the only home they had ever known rather than moving them away and changing their whole lives. It is true that your cat will miss you, but he will be very happy to see you when you visit. Animals do not like change, and he would be best off staying where he is, with what is familiar. My animals were older, and 2 ended up passing away while I was gone, including my very first dog...it was heartbreaking knowing that I missed out on his last days, but I knew that he was happiest being with my parents since that was the only place he had ever lived. He died happy. I recommend visiting whenever you can, but also have a life at school. Pets are very good at moving on, and your cat will have a great life even if he does not see you that often.

I had a case of this too. It was whether to leave my cats in Oregon and come to CA or stay in oregon for them. I left them, and while I miss them while I am away, they are very attached to my mother and she treats them well. You dont want to create a conflict between your cat and the existing cat at the uni, he may end up being so stressed about this other cat that he cannot enjoy time with you. Relocations are big deals for cats and he may have a hard time readjusting. My gut is telling me to leave him at home and visit him whenever you can, but this is all up to you.

I will have to go with the majority too, leave the cat where he is. He is used to the environment and if your parents take care of the cat when you are gone, and considering that he gets jealous around other cats - I think it would not be fair to him, if you would bring him with you.

I'm sorry that person said you are being selfish, you are not, you just love your cat. I think it would be best to leave your cat at home with your parents. That way he will be there, in his comfortable home, and whenever you go home, like for Christmas and at Summer, your cat will be there and you won't have to worry about moving him back and fourth with you. Good Luck.

Leave your cat with your parents. You can always come and visit him when ever you want. He is use to where he lives and there would probably be a cat fight if he dont like strange cats.

Sweety,i think you are ready know what to do...i know you love your cat and he loves you...but he will be going to a place he doesn't and he just might run away...the best thing to do is leave your pet with your mom and dad...at lease you will beable to see him when you visit your parents...and you know he is going into a loving home and will be taken care of right...so do what is best for your cat and for you...

he will miss you for a few days then settle down with your parents.
You will be very busy at university, lectures, study, research, parties, late nights on the town. Your time with puss would be maybe an hour a day. He would get lonely.

leave your cat at your parents house and come home for a weekend once a month or so and you can do your laundry for free and see your cat and your parents and your friends.

He would be happier staying with the home he is familiar with. It will also give you a good excuse to go home and see your parents often
