My 7 year old black labrador seems to consider horse poo a delicacy. Being that bit older he now knows it is a no-no and does stop if I tell him, but why does he do it in the first place?

He also eats all the dead rabbits, mice, voles etc., which my cat brings in unless I get to them first! I mentioned this to my vet once and he said that, from the dog's point of view, it is simply protein and therefore, not to be wasted. I'm not sure if that would apply to horse poo though.

DOGS LOVE IT........... My dogs eat horse poo and cow poo they just simply love it. Use to it would of been said the dog is lacking nutrition, but this is not true, they actually learn this behavior from their mother when they eat the pups feces. Any kind of feces causes parasites so it is best to try and prevent the dog from eating it, but when they roam in the country like mine do this is very hard to do, so i suggest to keep the dogs wormings up to date like usual and even though it is disgusting it is normal behavior. As far as eating the dead animals this is normal also, dogs are carnivores and they love to do this.

My parents live in the country and when I visited them last I took my dog over the fields, I caught him eating cow poo! It was all around his mouth, I had to hose him down when I got back.

What's more frustrating is the fact that he won't eat Pal, or dry dog food. Think i'll just take him to the fields for lunch in future.

When you find out let me know...my poodle eats goose poo, cow poo and rabbit poo as well as horse poo. It seems disgusting to us but there must be a reason for it being so yummy to dogs!

Lets face it, dogs will eat anything. The poo probably has quite a horsey flavour to it.

In addition to horse poo, my greyhound b1tch loves to drink water that's collected on the top of cow pats after it's rained. Lovely...

There may be a vitamin or mineral deficiency in your dog. Sometimes they will eat their own feces. Have your vet check your dog for vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
