What are some of the best US Air Force Bases?

Coming from a 17 year vet, my opinion is: there is no such thing.

What is best for one person, isn't going to be the best for others. Some people want to stay stateside and be near a big city... others prefer to be in a more rural area. Even more prefer to be overseas.

What determines if a base is "great" or not, depends on two things: timing and your attitude.

Timing because things change at a base. Services and buildings get built up or remodeled. Changes in leadership can improve or worsen working conditions, or even living conditions on base...

The one thing you have control of, is your attitude. If you go to a new base with the attitude that you are going to have a good time, you will. If you show up thinking it is going to suck... it will.

Most people that I've seen that hate a new base is because they are unwilling to try new things. They show up and only want to do all the things they are used to doing. If they are used to going "clubbing" all the time, and they are at a small rural base with no clubs, they begin to hate the assignment. However, there are plenty of things to do at such a base... take up paintball. Go camping/hiking. Take up woodworking or another hobby on base. Maybe there are other areas nearby that you can travel to in order to do things you enjoy.

IMHO, attitude determines which bases are the best. Your attitude.

Lackland is great, it may seem bad in basic, but if you get sent somewhere like malmstrom, you'll miss it.
