I saw someone say this in response to a question about whether we're here because of natural, unthinking processes (i.e. abiogenesis and evolution) or the actions of a deity... But the fact is we *are* here, and life is as it is *regardless* of where we came from, so why can't we regard it as a blessing either way? Would religious folks really feel their lives to be devalued in some way if they came to realise that we are indeed a 'cosmic accident' (as people love to say)? Personally, I don't see why they should.

Esteban: It may interest you to know that interstellar gas and dust clouds are full of amino acids. These things do indeed form spontaneously, and are common throughout the universe.

hello, typing hamster:-) if one is a pessimist and feels that their life has been filled with mostly bad luck, then it's seen as an accident.if one is an optimist and has had a fairly good life, then it is seen as a blessing.mine feels like i've been in an accident and survived but the wounds are still visible by scars, yet change was for the better since i'm learning everyday.

Personally I think that there is a Deity of some sort that has done something and/or is doing something that involves life. With that said, I am with you that we are an evolved species.I think people have been searching for an answer for so long that they have just settled on whatever religious story that seems to fit into their preconceived notions.Once they do that they will ignore all other reason.

Believing in creation made by God, also creates purpose and meaning. Why am living and what is the purpose my life creates reason and worthiness of who and what I am.

abiogenesis and evolution is nearly impossible to happen.
Can an atomic size of non-life material all of a sudden gather together and attached themselves in perfect order (usually a hundered of them) in single file to form a single Amino Acid (that is only a single amino acid)
Then you need several types of amino acids accidentaly gather again in perfect order just to form a single protein ( that is for a single proteing only )
then you need again several; type of protein to gather again in perfect order just to form a single cell

The mathematical probability of how those thing to happen is impossible.
Scientist admit themselves that the probability of this things to happen is like finding a single atom in the vastness of the universe.

I am not against to those who do not believe in creation, but we must study a lot of things, before declaring ourselves scientific.

I believe in God, and Christ and eternity. I believe that life is a blessing and not an accident mainly because of this but also because of this:
An accident is something going wrong unexpectedly
blessing, (also used to refer to bestowing of such) is the infusion of something with holiness, divine will, or one's hopes.

I say a blessing because I know God exists. And He said that He knew us before He formed us in our mothers womb and that our days where prepared for us before they even existed. lets just say for arguments sake, there was no God (Lord forgive me) then I would look at life as..... pointless, a curse, meaningless, a cruel joke, etc, etc. I wouldn't even be answering this question because I would have ended it a long time ago, but thank You Jesus for rescuing me from darkness and depression!!!!!

Both 'accident' and 'blessing' are words that, ultimately, describe some sort of a relationship. 'Life' in it's most fundamental aspect is a singularity so the words 'accident' or 'blessing' don't really apply to it.
