What does it mean when a guy says that he needs some space and that you should not call me or e-mail. And that you should wait until he calls you?

Well sweetheart it could mean several different things depending on where you are in your relationship. If you two are in love and having problems and are serious about each other it could mean he really does need his space and its giving you a quick view on how life would be without him there, or it could mean that there is someone else and he doesnt want to admit it so he pulls out his "dont call me, i will call you" card. If its bothering you, tell him to be honest and explain his motives behind it. his reaction to that question will most definately determine whats his reasoning behind it.

I'm sorry but it doesn't sound good...
You can try giving him the space and if he contacts you in a few days perhaps he just has a big problem he needs time to think. But if he loves you then he should have trusted you and confided in you in the first place.
If he doesn't make contact anymore, or doesn't encourage communication from you (like won't answer your calls), then I would say the relationship is over. But he wasn't man enough to break up in person. In that case, you're better off without him. It's his loss. I hope you find someone better deserving of you, and more mature.
The important thing is, don't hold your breath and wait especially when it's been a long time. Continue living your life and perhaps a better guy will come your way, someone who trusts you enough to share things with you, and doesn't hide anything from you.

it means you got dumped and he has a new girlfriend, he just tells you that because he wants someone to fall back on in case this new girlfriend does not work out, then he still has you to come back to
