Both genders define "good" in different ways and thus there is little communication as to what men want in women and what women want in men. A better question might be, what qualities do I have that I would like a woman to see and from the other side, what qualities do I have that I would like a man to see.

quite obviously there're very few of either. If all concentrated on being better to and for themselves an untold number of problems would cease to exist

1. it works on both sides FEAR of rejection.
2. no one is ever themselves they feel they have to impress the other
3. because you don't have the answers to the important questions.. does she/he like me is she/he single am I his/her type
4. when they get older the past hurts add up and are brought with the person so they expect failure due to the past.

what do you mean by 'good'?
if you mean someone with excellent self-esteem and self-respect, it should be easy to find someone else with same qualities.
