I guess you pay for what you get. Having flow all sorts of classes over the years you do get a more personal service in Business/First/Upper Class but it really depends on the crew you are flying with. Some are great, others are not.

One thing Airlines should do is focus more on the Economy passenger. Airlines pay a lot of attention to their first class passengers (as they generate the largest revenue) but unfortunately, those that get to turn right when boarding are quite often forgotten about.

Generally, the seat pitch is crap, the food is not very pleasant and you don't get offered enough drinks. If they looked at improving just this alone - say for example an airline created a more comfortable economy seat that was wider and my knees didn't touch the seat in front (and I’m not that tall either), the food was of decent quality and I got a bottle of water to last me the flight I'd consider that airline over their competition. I know with airlines it’s all about getting “bums on seats” but surely it would be better to lose a few rows in return for a better service which in turn will mean more people will book. That way the flights would be full each time and they would get repeat customers because they are better than the rest.

Anyway, just my two pence worth!

Economy class should be just that... cheep so I would not expect higher levels of service, although the service offered by British Airways I would expect as standard (I do not consider no frills, Easyjet, economy - it is below). Therefore I would expect food, TV and decent seats. I would not anything specifically tailored for me though.

In business class more is tailored to them. They can choose their meals, have a seperate lounge prior to travel, individualy tvs with more channels, seperate check in desks and areas, faster backage reclaimation as their bags are removed from the planes first. They do pay extra for it though!

Not sure what else you could ask for without moving it up into first class service which is considerably more expensive but can include things like limos to and from the airport etc.

When I fly my main consideration is cost. My only other one is safety. I'd travel in the cargo hold, as long as it is pressurised, for a cheap ticket. And forget service and in-flight refreshments. The longest flight in the world only takes 13 hours. I'll either go hungry or take sandwiches for a cheaper ticket.
