My computer came with a 3 month trial of Norton antivirus.
This expired ages ago. I now have another antivirus. But the Norton pops up and does a scan every so often.
When does everything slows down.
Can I safely delete it? I had a look at doing this and it said some files are in the quanantine zone. Can I delete these too?
I dont want to delete anything important.

Yes, delete it and the files in quarantine. They are there because they contained a virus. Norton only quarantines them in case they are infected system files and so that you can see what it has deleted. If your system runs OK without them then they can be safely lost.

You'd better not "delete", but "uninstall" it - that is, go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel; there open "Add and Remove programs". When the thing starts and loads the list of programs, find Norton antivirus, and press Remove (or Uninstall, whatever is available). You then follow the instructions, it's like a set-up wizard.

A recommendation - next time, uninstall the AV before installing the next one (prefereably disconnecting your network cable before you do either).

You can tell Norton to stop scanning automatically in the settings.
Norton only quarantines bad files, so feel free to delete them.

You probably just have a computer that can't handle a virus scanner without slowing down a little.

Don't just delete the folder it is installed in, or you'll find yourself in a heap of troubles. Goto Start - Configuration - Add/Remove Programs and remove Norton Antivirus.
As far as the files in the quarantine folder: look at those first. If they don't ring any bell to you, or you think you don't need them, go ahead and delete them. They won't be vital to your system, since you can't open them since they've been placed in the quarantine folder anyways.

An anti-virus is just that...an anti virus. NO it wont hurt your computer to delete it. Go to start and control panel and to add/remove list...find it and remove it. Then go back to your start list and under all programs check to see if it there, if so go all the way until you cant go no more and if it says uninstall Norton then click it. Easy as that.

It's fine to delete it, as long as you have some other form of anti virus and anti spyware on your PC.

If you've got XP Click on start and control panel (possibly start, settings, control panel)

click ad remove programs

find Norton and uninstall all, this should work a treat!

yeah, just go control panel, add/remove programs and remove it.

If a free trail then all you're getting now is gonna be annoying adverts trying to get you to buy it.

Once removed, restart your PC and then run a full scan with new antivrus in order to capture anything released by the norton

files in quarnantine are files infected with virus but the antivirus could not repair it so they are kept locked in the quarantine folder so they do not infect other files on the computer, you can directly delete it & will not loose any important files

if you already have another antivirus installed in your computer then it is safe to uninstall the other one. quarantined files in the antivirus program are more or less infected files. i say it is safe to delete them.

If its getting on your nerves then it should be fine to delete as long as you have another anti virus, but to be honest it might be worth keeping it on just for extra security.
