what you can afford. don't just look at the bottom line price, but also what you can afford to fill at the pump,servicing, insurance costs and all other car-related matters.
it also depends on how long you will keep the car, how many miles you do a year, how often you use the car and for what purposes.here's some cars from various catagories i would choose
Light: Honda Fit,Suzuki Swift
Small-Medium: Mazda 3, Honda Civic, VW Golf
Medium: Nissan Altima, Acura TSX,Mazda 6
SUV:Toyota Rav 4, Honda CRV,Chevy Equinox
Luxury: Audi A6, Lexus IS, Cadillac CTS

What do you plan on doing with it? To and from work only? Hauling friends/stuff? Long trips? If you don't have to deal with snow and live in the city/town, get a small car that good on gas.

What ever you choose dont choose a ford!!!
It really depends on what sorta car you want eg small car, family car, 4wd etc. have a look around!!!

get a Toyota car. Its the best. It gives good value for your money, good mileage, spare parts are easily available, & it has a good resale value.
