it's was a bunch of rocks that Abraham (pbuh) put together and founded a shelter. and it's been a holy site ever since.
at the time of prophet Mohamed (pbuh) he was ordered by god to rebuild the Kaaba so they did and that's also were Muslims do Haj ( pilgrimage once every year!!!
sorry there are a lot more historical details about the holy kaaba that i'm not fully informed with but i kinda mentioned the basics!!

long story.....its the first masjid built in the world, for piligrimage....
there are religious inscriptions inside the kabbah and some rocks....
