I love my Nikon. It's quite old.. from the 60s or 70s I think. Beautiful results, and tons of lens options to be had for decent rates.

The newer canons EOS's are nice too.. like the Rebel and such.

You might want to consider buying a used one if not a digital SLR, however, as both Kodak and Fuji have announced that they are discontinuing production of their still photography film within the next 2 or 3 years (kodak first, and fuji within a year after that)

In my opinion, the Nikon F100 is the best "bang for the buck" film SLR out there. Very rugged metal body, bright, clear viewfinder, quick autofocusing, good metering, and superior flash system when combined with a Nikon speedlight.

But, like others have mentioned, I would invest my money in a digital SLR instead. The Nikon D200 is a comperable camera to the film F100 in performance and ruggedness. Unforntunately, not in the price!

If money is no object, for film get a Nikon F6 or for digital get a Canon 1Ds mk2.
