Maybe they assume it because the fights take place inside the octogan? Or maybe they remember they way UFC used to be in the early days and think that it's still the same way?

UFC and boxing are both about ending the fight by beating your oppenent. However, mma fights have more weapons in their arsenal, and due to this the fighters in the UFC are usually more dangerous. They also are in better shape since they attack with all limbs, throw, and grapple. As far as injuries go, you are more likely to break a limb in MMA than in boxing. However, because boxers take so many more shots to the head every fight than mma fighters they recieve more brain injuries and deaths (not something to be proud of). These are sports, not the streets, it is sad to see fighters killed or careers ended to injuries, especially head injuries. If you don't believe that a boxer is not as dangerous, then just watch early UFC. Those that have no knowledge of throws, joint locks, or chokes always lose (but there is always a punchers chance).

That because the people in the UFC know when to stop. Some boxers jsut won't step down which is ok but when you get in a ring wit ah martial artist he knows his limits. And the only reason the UFC has never had any cases is simply the length of the matches. They are to short a good boxing match can go on for hours a UFC match can go on fora up to an 30 minutes stuff like that. And i have seen people in the martial arts get brain damage. At a tournament not to far from where i am right now a person did a in word round house to another persons head gave him a concussion an browned him out. He had to go to the doctor and has problems now. So the only reason that the UFC hasn't had taht many injuries is how longs its been around, which is liek ten years or w/e where as boxings been around forever, and the length of the matches.

according to statistics boxing by a land slide, and also according to most knowledgeable physicians as well. here is why. Though the UFC, and all MMA has the potential for serious injury or death, as does any sport with heavy contact, these things are limited by the fact that submissions are a viable way to win. Also, strikes from the ground, for the most part though not always, are not nearly as traumatic as standing strikes due to the force produced by body technique. Lastly, and this is the big one, in boxing the deaths and serious injuries are mostly due to repeted blows to the head and the build up of injury. A KO is a KO, either way, but in MMA if a person is knocked down and dazed, the fight will probably end in the next few seconds. In boxing the fighter gets a standing 8 count and then goes back to fight. This can happen over and over and over in the course of a 12 round fight and all that damage is absorbed by the brain which just continues to swell till it can't swell any longer. The people thatbthink ufc is more dangerous base it on 2 things the small gloves and the blood that they see. As to that, remember boxing gloves protect the fighters hands far more than they do the other fighters head, that is a fact, and cuts are not seriously threats unless they sever an major artery or vein, which is nealy impossible to do in the head, people are just squeemish.

UFC is not more dangerous as far as being SERIOUSLY injured. The problem with boxing is that the gloves are so padded and they get hit soooo many times, the brain constantly is being bashed into the skull. This causes brain damage. In the UFC, fighers get hit with not so padded gloves and well, this hurts more, and a fighter can't take too many shots with the lighter gloves. Therefore, the brain doesn't get bashed around so much. When a fighter is getting submitted, they can tap out whenever they want. I never seen a wind pipe crushed in the UFC or Pride, I've seen them pass out, that's it. As I said, a fighter can tap whenever they want. I enjoy watching both, and don't like all the negative attention combat sports receive. I love all the sports, why can't critics just shut up about it? If people are willing to compete in these sports than let them compete, more power to them. They're entertainers and they know the risks involved.

UFC is more dangerous than boxing. Think about it, you can use hands, elbows, knees, legs and many forms of submissions in the UFC. I understand boxing is dangerous, considering the amount of punches thrown in a typical match, but in terms of being injured, there is a far greater chance of being injured in a MMA fight. I have competed in boxing and mma matches and was always more nervous prior to an mma match. Understand that with the increase in versatility of an mma fighters arsenal, the greater the increased chance of injury. But do not get me wrong, i still wouldn't want to take a straight shot from a boxer either.

I believe people think this because of all the negative attention Sen. John McCain brought to it in the 90's. He really stuck it to the UFC, of course it was alot more violent back in the day because the fighters were not as well rounded as they are today and there were alot less rules. Even then there were not a lot of people getting hurt of seriously injured. People just think because the fighters are not wearing huge boxing it is more dangerous but its not. Hom many times have you seen a boxer get knocked down, then they get him back up so he can get his head pounded on some more. It's all good though because the sport of MMA is more popular right now than ever and its just going to keep getting better.

Peace.

Actually boxing is more dangerous than UFC. You don't get hit in the head as much so there's no permanent damage just like in boxing. plus as of right now, there's no fatality yet in UFC. It's already sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commision and other sanctioning bodies which means they have to abide by the rules set by them. It's not like the old UFC anymore where anything goes(hair pulling, low blows, grabbing the fence etc).

I agree that people still have the image of what it used to be like. I just watched my first event in like 6 years and I was blown away by how organized and professional it had become. It really is a better test of fighting ability than boxing and with all of the crap that boxing is always going through with match avoidances and just plain old terrible fights when they do happen, I think UFC will keep gaining in popularity.

i think i agree with you, Boxing you just hit eachother in the head for like 30 minutes. UFC there are submissions, and kicks and punches but your not just testing out power. I like UFC more than proffesional boxing and i think A ufc guy would take a boxer anyday but i really agree with u, boxing is harmful.

listen to john r. boxing (in the professional level) is much more dangerous than mma. there are several reasons for this. one, the padding doesn't protect the brain, it just keeps the person from being ko'd (which is meant to protect the person from further damage.) next, there are other ways to win a mma match, such as submission or tko.
for example, the ken shamrock vs. tito ortiz fight. if it was a boxing match, well, first thing is that nobody would be on the ground. but more importantly, instant of declaring a tko, the ref would have simply put them back at their corners.
