A global power or world power is a term that refers to a country that has overwhelming power over all other nations in the world. Countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Germany, Russia, France, Italy, Japan and India are all major world powers. Many would also regard the European Union as a global power in its own right. A world power usually has a huge population, a strong industrial economy, armed forces capable of extending political influence beyond borders and, preferably, permanent membership in the UN Security Council.

India- is stragtically said to be a major power in the coming years. Statisitcally, India is said to be the third richest country by 2050.

The Republic of India is considered as one of the possible emerging superpowers of the world. This potential is attributed due to several indicators, the primary ones being its demographic trends and a rapidly expanding economy. However the country suffers from many economic, social, and political problems that it must overcome before it can be considered a superpower.

No. India has the potential but India does not have the World vision required to march ahead to the next level. Judging by their historical tradition of "taking things easy," I doubt that India is likely to change this attitude in the near future either. Their motivation for becoming a Global Super Power is purely fiction. They are constantly looking for short cuts. Whereas the Chinese have actually worked for their place in the sun. This will play against India. Indians take too much comfort in "believing" that one day they will be world's largest super power. Some people in India, and I am talking about some highly educated people in India, even feel that they already are a Super Power now. They really do believe this and very seriously. This mentality will actually be India's downfall in the end.

Because their vision for a better future is very blurry, they really have no serious plans. Most Indians are happy with the limelight which India is currently enjoying in the Western Press. For the longest time the rest of the World regarded India as an insignificant country. So today, because India is getting so much coverage, most Indians are quite content with just getting their name in the paper. They do not really have any serious ambitions to forge ahead and seize the opportunity. All show, no go!

This complacent attitude of India will always hold them back.

China, on the other hand, has the decipline, the will and certainly the machinery to move forward and at a much quicker pace than India ever will be.

The crutch unfortunately is the Indian attitude which will slow India down as she goes hobbling along at a very slow pace for ever. It is this foolish pride and the wave of hollow patriotism which will place India at the back of the line again.

That's the reality of India which the rest of the world, and indeed the Indians themselves, do not want to face right now.

I think that India will be a global power one day.
I travel there every few months on business from the UK and every time I go there is a marked improvement in the infrastructure from the previous trip - and we're talking about a gap between visits of just 3-4 months.
India as a global power would be a very welcome alternative to the the USA or China.

of course they can, their economy is running as fast as china's. China and India are neck and neck in the race but of course china is faster and most likely to become the next super power. but India absolutely has the potential to. they have over one billion in population and tons of capital. the money gap between the rich and the poor is so large that it causes the rich to invest and the poor to supply the cheap labour thats needed for the economy to keep moving. India has everything and sooner or later they will become a superpower. they also eat curry, roti and samosas which tastes so good that they could threaten the whole world to make them a global power otherwise they would cut off the samosas supply to the world :D

well if you are asking can india be a global power then answer is yes it can be but only enigma is WHEN ? this question's answer still seems to elude us , india can well become global power in next 25 years if our political scenario changes from currently corrupt and lazy politicians to hard working individuals then we think of india becoming global power.

Absolutely, India is gradually becoming technologically advanced and they certainly have the manpower to to reach their potential. What India needs (nad has) is the right leaders to motivate and encourage economic, political and social growth. India is the world's largest democracy and has the second largest population in the world. (After China, of course.)
