Long ago, that glue would have been animal or plant based and some boiling water would have melted it for re-use.

These are modern times and most glues are made of chemical resins and cannot be reused after they become hard and set. Throw away that hard one.

Keep glue tightly closed to prevent hardening when not in use.

Its probably old and not working any longer. Dispose of properly and buy a new bottle.
