What color should I paint the garage? Should it be white? I notice most garages are white. White is okay for interiors, but for a space which is vented to the outside, woudn't white show the dirt more?

Also, since the garage does have a vent which exposes it to the outside air, should I use interior, or exterior paint?

it isn't the outside air which determines which paint to use, it is the weather. If a surface does not get the sun, wind or rain then imho an interior paint is fine (and cheaper). Be aware that emulsion paint can rub off on your clothes. (! wasn't!)

I would paint the bottom foot (30cm) a darker colour, grey/brown/green as the dirt gets kicked up onto it. The rest in white to reflect light around the garage.

You can get some good paints for the floor, too. Blue/Green/Grey.

do interior. Don't need exterior and it tends to be more expensive, anyway.
Whatever color your house is do a much lighter shade of it in the garage. You don't want your garage to stand out when the door is opened, and a dark color would do that, and so does white or you wouldn't have easily noticed the others who have white garage walls.
Also a gray color works.

Good luck.

It's going to be a fun room, so go with a bold color like purple, red, royal blue, hunter green, or orange. I would either leave the garage door alone or paint only the inside the same color as what you'll put on the walls. Leave the cabinets brown.

Because it is a garage you are likely to only paint it once so don't skimp on the paint. If the garage is unheated and there may be occasional moisture present, such as washing of garden equipment or your car, then you have the potential for mold and mildew to grow. In this case I recommend a product called Perma White by Zinser. It is guaranteed against mold and mildew for 5 years. It comes in either satin or semi-gloss. The rule of thumb is, the shinier the surface, the easier the clean. Satin shows up fewer blemishes then semi-gloss. The product can be tinted into the pastel range if desired. It also covers very well.

Use exterior paint for longevity. Most people use white so that they can see without turning on the lights when working in the garage during the daytime. Also, since most garages have minimal lighting, white helps when using the light is necessary. But there are no "rules", any color you like will do.

There is more information needed here. What color is your home? Do you have some nice landscaping? All I can give you for advice for the moment is using exterior paint ( I am assuming it's an older wooden door ). If you fill me in on more info, I'd be glad to help!
