I have a 12 year old daughter and she wants to get her ears peirced. And she asked her friends if it hurts and they said no but the infections do. I was going to peirce her ears at Claire's. Can someone tell me if i will hurt more using a gun or needle, where to pierce it without getting infections, and how much it will hurt for my daughter.

Also does my daughter get to choose which ear ring she wants or do they pick one for her?

Claire's will do it for you, but you can also get it done at some Walmarts now in the jewelry department. And the piercing is free with the purchase of the earrings normally. They'll give you the ones they can use to choose from...the cheapest ones being between 20-30 bucks. Have them use a gun...it's very fast and she won't even feel it until it's all over.

I have two holes in each of my earlobes. One set was done professionally with a gun, and the other was done with a needle. Being pierced with the needle was very painful. With the gun, I didn't feel a thing.

The biggest possibility of getting infections is in the way you care for them after they are pierced. She needs to use a qtip to dowse around her newly pierced earrings with alcohol and then turn the earring slowly to let the alcohol get in and to prevent the earring from being 'healed' into her ear. Do this at least once or twice a day for about 2 weeks, and your chances of infection are minimal.

Claire's is good. The gun is way less painful. The needle is for masochists.
Just be with her and watch to make sure they prepair her earlobes with alcohol wipes and use sterile studs. These studs should be in a seal package just before they load them into the gun.
Claire's is required to use these and prepair the lobes in this fashion.

If they don't, stop them and do not allow them to pierce her ears.

Once done, make sure to clean them twice daily with the solution they have there at Claire's. It's formulated to not cause irritation.
DO Turn/twist the studs twice a day as well. This will help the new holes heal in an open fashion.

Your daughter will get to choose the earrings she wants. The gun in much milder as the sting takes a short time. To avoid infections ensure that the tools to be used are sterilized and that after piercing your daughter follows the given instructions i.e applying disinfectant and turning/twisting/moving the earrings as adviced. They will heal well if proper care is taken.

All the best to you both

I would try going some were more professional that Claire's. Also, it helps to get a good pair of earrings like real gold or silver because some of the other metals can cause an allergic reaction. To cut down on infections, apply Alcohol to the ear every night.

No, I was in 6th grade when I got my first ear pierced! and the gun just pinched a little I wouldn't recommend using a needle VERY UNSTERILE even if you dip it in Alcohol and I got it done at Wal*Mart for free if I bought an earring! I had no infections so I would go with No it doesn't hurt just pinches and if you put the medicine on it they give you with the ear piercing and twirl it around every once in a while it won't get infected! trust me I'm a wimp! LOL

People often get their kids ears pierced when they are babies so they wont remember or feel the pain that much. I would be better using the gun cause that will be faster. But still will hurt. DONT get it done at Claire's, go to a professional piercing place.

It doesn't hurt in the ear lobe especially if they use the gun. The risk of infection is not based on the piercing location but the person's ability to keep the site clean. They should provide instructions on proper care and it should be fine. One thing to be careful about is to loosen the starter studs because dirt and sweat can accumulate between them and the ear because it is pressed so tightly. Proper hygiene and basic care should make it a snap.

the gun is the least painful! The best is to go to somewhere like Claire's, they know how to avoid infection and you will get sterling silver earrings which shouldn't cause infection. Just watch it carefully and clean it if it needs. They will give you good instruction!

It hurts way worse getting your ears pierced with a gun its better to find a clean and decent looking tattoo shop that has proffesional that does their piercings with needles and not a gun. It's not as quick but it's alot less painfull.

your best bet is to find a good tatto and piercing place, not a run down dirty one. a clean one. If you can sign for her to have her ears done there. A gun bruises the earlobe, especially cartelige piercings. if you go to clairs make sure you get 14k gold or surgical steel
