To be a good Christian:
I absolutely hate that description.
I don't like the direction that it tends to send people who are Christian. It allows people that have no intention of being Christian a weapon to beat Christians over the head with.
For one thing, you can't be good. So unless you are into legalism, there is none good but God. A true Christian will put away the fantasy that they are able to be good. Not only does it remain a perspective as to the inablity to be good, it rightfully places the credit to the glory of god.
As to being a Christian: A Christian is someone who puts their trust in God through Christ. " There is none that do good, no not one." All the works that a Christian does that have eternal consequences are accredited to God. Those are the only works that matter to Him.
So with the question, "what does it mean to be a good Christian?" I thoroughly reject the notion. It places works above faith. It places appearance above the matters of the heart towards God with the cares of men.
I know you were just asking a question. And I think that you got a few more now.

Be Christ-like. Treat others as Christ did, he loved everyone! If we truly loved everyone and tried to help eachother we would all be true christians!
A good christian is the same as a Christian. A bad Christian doesn't exist... your either Christian or not, in my opinion!

I disagree with some of what is said by "Christians" on here. You CAN be a Christian and mess up BIG TIMEand NOT be GOOD! It does not mean you are not Christian- it means you are human and bleed, like we all do. We all have "bad" and "good" in us. There is NO PERFECT Christian- only CHRIST was perfect.
I digress though-
Being a "good" Christian is showing others they way Jesus would have treated them. Loving, caring and nurturing others, even if they spit in your face, demean you, call you names, beat you, torment you, and finally put a crown of thorns on your head before they nail you to a cross. Extreme? YES! BUT, if you can plant one seed of Faith though everyone who reads your words, would you rather not do that, than have someone say, "Christians think they are perfect?" I am a sinner, I am far from perfect and I LOVE my Lord- He takes me as I am, broken, hurting and not worthy....
Being "good" is not easy, we are HUMAN... showing the "face of Jesus" is what it is about. ><>

I don't really believe in the notion of being a "good Christian." When it comes down to it... we all fall short of the glory of God, and we will continue to do so until we are united with Him in Glory. What I do believe in, though, is being a true Christian. The Bible tells us that true belief and repentance will affect the overflow of our mouths and actions. Thus, we do not cease sinning, merely we continually strive to be more and more like Christ, and we desire to please Him out of our love for Him, rather than out of any selfish ambition or pride. Thus, there are no "good Christians" and "bad Christians." There are certainly Christians who are going through struggles, trials, and temptations. Yet, even the strongest of faiths (as we learn from observing Joshua in Zechariah 3) are feeble and failing. What we see from those who proclaim to be Christian is that they either are Christian, relying on the faithfullness of the Lord despite continual sin, or they are not Christian, and constantly live in their sin, with no recognition that they need repentance.

The Character of a Godly Man:
Psalm 1:1-3 Ref.
Christian men willing to answer the Lord’s call to live godly lives in an unrighteous world. A man with this mindset will understand the importance of:
Ordering his life with Christian counsel. A God-fearing man is not too self-sufficient or proud to ask for help. He seeks biblical counsel regularly so that he can succeed according to God’s principles. He is open to advice based on scriptural truths, whether for his home life, personal finances, or business matters. Many of us, however, are prone to seek opinions from those who appear successful, even if they do not share our faith. How wise can ungodly men be when they have chosen to live without God? How smart are we when we seek their advice?
Limiting his deepest friendships to fellow believers. Only the like-minded — those who love Jesus and desire to follow Him — are suitable to be intimate friends of a believer. Remember, our companions can influence us positively or negatively. Those who reject Jesus will never guide us toward Him. Those who are casual in their faith can influence us away from God’s standards. While the Lord expects us to relate to all sorts of people, it is wise to restrict our “inner circle” to Christ-followers.
Being committed to defending the truth. Concerned with the things of the Lord and His church, a godly man will TAKE A STAND against the profane use of Jesus’ name. Not only will he speak the truth about unrighteous patterns of behavior and their destructiveness; he will also oppose ridicule of the Bible or other Christians. Ref. Psalms 1;3 Jer 17:8 14:1 12: 1-2

To spend your whole life believing nothing but an outdated fairytale and worshiping a religion that does what it says the antichrist will do.
Oh yeah, and NEVER read between the lines of the bible, for in between those lines lives the devil. The fact that the bible contradicts itself and defies the laws of physics. If you realize this, you are shunned from the church for life.

Treat people as you would like to be treated.
If everyone followed this example we would have a much more peaceful world.
It is when other people attempt to makes others act they want them to act that we start having all this trouble and that goes for Christians also.
