if you want to be near the night life stay in patong if not head to karon or foe an even more chilled out area kata if you go to phuket.com all hotels are listed and it gives you quite a lot of info when booking a room go through www.asiarooms.com as they are a lot cheaper than the hotels and will give you a good price

Depends on your budget - I'd recommend Mom Tri's Boathouse at Kata Noi - it's a bit expensive but Kata is quieter than Patong and Karon

It depends on your preference. If you are going to be there with your family, I highly recommend the Holiday Inn in Patong.
The Busakorn Wing is newly restored and is excellent.

its the main resort and pretty busy
hotels are cheap
try octopus travel for really cheap hotels
prices from around £10 a night for a double room

Any where, just go and hail a 'phut phut' (little taxi) tell them you want a good hotel near the beach, you cant go wrong!Its a great place.
