It's a law that everyone must wear seatbelts in a car, why not on a bus? We let a complete stranger drive our children around and they don't even have to wear seatbelts! I find this very disturburbing.

I understand your point, and agree that it is unsafe, hypocritical and they should be worn ....but the reasoning is this...

School buses are big and strong and don't go very fast anything crashing into one isn't likely to create enough of an impact on it to endanger the passengers.

The law states that if a vehicle is equipped with seatbelts that they MUST be worn at all times. You should see if the bus your child rides in is equiped with seatbelts, then you could MAKE them wear them. i think if they didnt have them is because school buses are typicaly slow moving vehicles and they weigh a buttload. so if the did have an accident the bus would be fine and there wouldnt be enough force to propel a child out of their seat.... either that or it would be too hard to enforce, every stop you have to inspect the children to see if their wearing them.

This was tested a few years back. Studies showed that the seatbelts on the busses were doing more harm than good to children the the event of an accident. But I completely agree with you on the stranger part. It's just wierd.

The front seats have seat belts (that must be worn). In the event of an accident, the seat in front of the others will act as a barrier to cushion any flying children. The buses don't go nearly as fast as regular vehicles do anyway.

If you leave your children to complete strangers then you are a poor parent. Get to know your bus driver.

Bus = high off of the ground and wieghs at least 3x more than a car.

Car = small, made of plastic and some metal. A more confined space.

In New York where I live they do.. Every seat is equiped with seat belts.. Now weather or not they all wear them is another thing. Meaning how well the child was taught to wear them. But don't forget.. Buses are bigger then your average car/suv/van, And can take more abuse then the others.. So I guess in some places its overlooked

That's the beauty of government telling us what to do... demanding that we wear a seat belt does not cost them any money but instead it creates revenue in the form or fines.

In the case of School buses, it will be a big expense to outfit and retrofit then with seat belts...

Makes no sense whatsoever!

If a school bus gets hit by a car, the car will be destroyed, and the bus might have a scratch.

Its Simple the government dose not want to spend all the thousand of dollars required to make it composory to fit seat belts in all school buses, its all down to the dollars.

well it is dangerous to ride in any vehicle but i geuss the reasoning behind it is that a bus is so large that most impacts, for lack of a better term, wouldn't phase the bus. also the way seats are arranged and the spacing of them lend them better to being safe in an impact.
