Well of course there was a lot of controversy about the way Jews were being portrayed in that movie.
And of course nobody denies that it was the Romans who crucified Jesus, not the Jews. The controversy has been about the role that some Jews played in the crucifixion. What Mel Gibson does not take into account, because he takes the gospels of the New Testament, as, well, gospel, is that these gospels were written at a time when Christianity was trying to curry favor with the Romans, and of course Christianity eventually displaced the old religion in the Roman empire. So when the New Testament was written, there was naturally an effort to downplay the role of the Romans in the crucifixion and play up the role of the Jews. The Catholic Church has officially absolved the Jews of responsibility for the death of Jesus, but Mel Gibson, and even more so his father, do not recognize those reforms in the Catholic Church (known as Vatican II), so they still blame the Jews.

I would honor Mel Gibson for the Passion. I think he did a great service for humanity by making that movie.
I heard that all but two Arab countrys allowed that movie into their countries. That's amazing!
The Arabs thought that it taught people to hate the Jews, as I've noticed that some on this site have opinioned. But being how Jesus was a Jew, his mother was a Jew, and that God promised that messiah would be from Judah in Genesis 49, I think that other than His promise that the Jews would not immediately accept the messiah, God approves of the Jews.
A case in point, Ezekiel 38 and 39 where God considers all those nations that come against Israel enemys of His. He will even "put a hook in the mouth" of Saudi Arabia in order to get them into it.
Also, don't forget that Jesus in his Second Coming will stand on the mount of Olives and kill all the enemies of Israel.
So you that are Christian in any capacity, take it easy on the Jews. Otherwise, you are unwittingly siding with the devil.

The Bible is the most definitive work that we have that has many literary witnesses of the events and it is very clear that Jesus and the Apostles were all Jewish. And that Jesus challenged the hierarchy at the time to turn back to God and they refused to believe that He was sent from God. With some notable exceptions.
The account certainly makes the Group of the Pharisees look bad. But how could Jesus or Mel or anyone portraying Jesus be anti-Semite. Jesus was a Semite. The Apostles never ceased being Jewish and their followers who were Jewish saw no reason to leave their faith at the time.
Jesus was the Jewish Messiah, or that is our belief, anyway. The Apostles saw no contradiction in adding their new belief to their original belief.
The people who persecuted the Apostles were the Romans, who likewise persecuted the Jews.
The way Jesus himself would put it is that we all killed Him by our behavior. And we crucify Him again by our continual infighting. He would be very saddened at the treatment of the Chosen People.

As dumb as he is, and as horrible as the idea of God willfully killing His own son is in the first place is... that movie was very much as the Bible tells the story.
The Jews were not depicted as being the ones that killed Jesus in the movie, the Roman guards were, just as the Bible says. The Jews were the ones that wanted it done, however... in both the Bible and the movie.
That said, it doesn't really matter what really happened. If all the races and cultures that were cruel at one point were punished for it now, every last one of us be having a horrible life.
For example... being Greek, Scotch, and Cherokee Indian, I would be paying for all the bad things the Greeks, Scots, and Cherokees ever did. Ridiculous. I don't even know their damn names.
Perhaps the continued persecution of the Jews is an attitude the Christians take straight from their own God - He did, after all, punish people for what their parents and other ancestors did.
Any Christian who feels it necessary to hate Jews for the death of Jesus or blame them for it need to "look at the plank in their own eye" and remember the witch burnings, the Crusades, and the Holocaust.

I dont think he does like jewish people, i think he was raised this way. But the message of J-sus is he loves everyone no matter the race or color. And that should be the message. For me The Passion was an eye opener and allowed me to see things alot differently, and i do believe that Mel was meant to do this movie because he said it bugged him for 10yrs. I am thankful the movie came out just do not feel that it was the jewish people's fault about J-sus dying i feel J-sus life was planned, and without him dying we wouldnt be able to be forgiven. But i am disappointed in Mel saying stuff about the jewish people

I don't see it in the movie that Mel dislikes Jews. Did you ever get drunk and do something really stupid? Well I hate to say it, but liquor does that to people. Mel admits he has a problem. Why don't we pray for him instead of running over him over and over again. He is human and we all fall short of the Glory of God. But at least he admits he was wrong. That's what we all must do to get back on track, ask forgiveness from God and receive His forgiveness.

we the human race killed Jesus you and I, he died for all of us not just the one that were there in those days,
this mess with Mel is a very childish action from his so call friends and coworkers that are jealous or are mad when he made the movie and they weren't allowed a piece of the pie because he paid for the movie himself,
and when you've been raised in a family that is raciest and you try to get away from it it will come up sometimes and you are even shocked and ashamed at yourself especially when it is something you've tried so hard to get away from, and drinking will cause you to not only do silly thinks ,but do things that can ruin your life, but in Mel's case he has apologized what else do the people want.................. Blood

read the bible you fools...I am Jewish yet i know more scripture than any posts...the Jewish Rabbi's did not "kill" Jesus Christ, yet they did give his wherabouts in which the Roman's used. Jesus gave himself up and then the Roman's crucified him. No Jew had partaken in the murder. Get your information right. Although there is a contradiction in the bible:
The Jews Killed Jesus. Acts 2:22-23
The Romans killed Jesus. Matthew 27:27-3
see the contradiction? The actually story of Jesus never mentions any Jew's putting Jesus up on the cross. It just mentions Romans. PLease get your facts correct before your ignorant and stubborn minds go against your hearts.

i mean, look at the middle east...Jews are the center of disaster...
they ***** at others in their vicinity and how lovely for the U.S. to back up the jews.
