I second Ubuntu or Kubuntu they are very userfriendly but why do you want to use linux for home use and multimedia they were meant more for programming and that sort but you can use it for home use, If your going to use the software you use on windows like games use WINE it lets you use windows stuff on your linux but linux can do almost anything that windows can do

Ubuntu or Kubuntu. I play any file in it Windows can except for flash 9 which is soon to be updated for Linux also. Right now it's at v.7 for linux.

Ubuntu has been the best so far for me. It's easy to install and upgrade. I like installing packages from the repository, it's so easy to install audio/video packages. They also ship Ubuntu CDs for free (no shipping charges either). Check the second link below.
