Well, the examples you gave are weak.

However, if you hid jews in Nazi Germany and lied about it, I think that is a lie that ismore than OK!

The bible says God hate liars. Although there was a scholar in the bible that lied about his wife to keep from being killed and God honored him. Perhaps he repented and since telling a lie is
a sin, the bible says when you sin repent quickly. No it is not good for a christian to tell a lie. A person food taste bad I show will tell them and not lie. So far about Santa being real are only
fables for kids. I never knew where this ritual came from, the parents did not want the kids to know they brought the gifts.
Nevertheless that lie was revealed and has stopped. Again I say it is not good to lie. Futhermore Christians are justified. No sin.

Common sense tells us that it is not okay to lie and we all know this regardless of whether you identify as a Christian or not. The truth may sting a bit at first, but a lie will haunt you and reveal itself at the worst time. Practice honesty by relaying the message in a tactful way. Lies always hurt because you'll have someone thinking they can cook and one day a blatantly honest person, with no tact, will let them know that their cooking is aweful. Then the person will feel so embarassed and foolish when they realize that all this time, their cooking sucked and that's just wasted time, because had you been honest; they could have spent all that time learning to cook!

The intent of Christians in general is overall for the greater good, in my opinion. However a person in the singular sense will do what he/she/it thinks is right. That's the err for people that do not use the Bible for a model to live by- they do whatever THEY think is right. The question is too narrow because it doesn't take into consideration what God's will is, because to live as righteously as Jesus should be our goal. As people we are born into sin and can only be saved by Jesus (i.e. born again through Jesus)

Doing "right" isn't about feeling good, it's about doing the right thing and if someone feels good from doing God's word well then feeling good is the product. If telling lies isn't hurting someone that doesn't make it right you might be teaching that person it's ok to lie.

I'm sick of hearing people and their feelings like they are the only one on earth it's very selfish.

We are supposed to be humble and try to help peoples' souls and you know people will be people!

there's a saying that most of us have probably heard: "Don't put a question mark where God put a Period." Welp, the Bible reads, "Thou shalt not lie." not "Thou shalt not lie????" lol

Now, you could go that way . . .. but isn't it the Christian thing to do NOT to hurt somebody's feelings? If telling the truth would hurt their feelings, what are the other options? It's a good question, but maybe you should ask yourself, "what would I want THEM to do to ME if the situation were reversed?" (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.) Either way, I think your heart is in the right place.

============================
oh and as far as that other guy's comment............ ""Thou shalt not lie" is from the old testament; Christ died so Christians don't have to follow those rules anymore. As long as you truly accept Christ as your savior, and know that he died for your sins, you can lie, cheat, steal, rape, pillage and kill people all you want and you'll got to heaven. Someone tell me I'm wrong."

Christ's sacrifice is not a ticket to sin. If you would use it as an excuse to sin then you are NOT a Christian and you are NOT saved. Anybody who "truly accepts Christ as their saviour" would not do such horrible things. Good luck to you. God bless you.

Regarding the food, it's not a lie to say that it's okay, if it's okay enough to eat. And if you say it's great, it's great that it can nourish your body, and you're not specifying taste.

Regarding Santa Claus, I would never promote that to children and I would tell them the truth that it's a man in a suit who is a phoney that should be avoided.

I think it all comes down to ones intention:
I tell small lies to not hurt people's feelings or to give them a much needed boost in life.
On the other hand, my (ex) best friend used to tell small lies for her own benefit, intentionally hurting people close to her so that it benefits her.
I was one of those people who suffered lies she told that I later found out about and I can tell you that she is now a very lonely person.
So, it all comes down with what intention you have, big lie or small.

All lies are lies. However, instead of answering bluntly and says it taste like garbage. One could phrase one's response in a more encouraging way...one's words, tone, facial expression, body gestures all play apart. In my personal opinion, it is always possible to find some positive words, praises, instead of an abrupt "negative" response.

I don't believe it is ever okay to lie, christian or not. As a christian we are supposed to be christ like and I don't think it is christ like to lie. I've been asked the same questions as in your examples and even though it's hard you have to tell the truth.
