well firstly you did not mention weather it was a manual or automatic but when you switch off, you stop the spark to the plugs so its the same as running out of petrol the vechicle will come to a halt, an automatic some what more sudden than a manual.a bit like slaming your breaks on in top gear,so you could lose control of the vechicle,as it could go into an uncontrolable skid.

You could potentially drop the transmission right out... Blow it up, so to speak... if you go from one gear to another, like from a driving gear to reverse. If you shifted into neutral, probably nothing much would happen. Or you could grind gears so badly they need replacing...
Best advice? Don't do it... it's just not very smart.

it will generally just continue to roll. some older transmissions may lock up. but generally they will just roll until you get to a really low speed and then the wheels may lock up.
