Oh, you bet! We give all of our dogs a little family party! I make dog-safe cakes and we have candles and everything! They might not understand what all of the extra attention is really about, but they know it is for them, and it makes them very happy. The kids love it, too!

I also send out B-day cards and presents to *all* of the puppies that have I ever have raised in the past. It is getting pretty crazy keeping track of them, but I really like doing it. I always get calls or emails back telling me how much the puppies enjoyed it!

No, but I always make my cat Smokey wear a party hat at my family's birthday parties. I took a regular sized cone-shaped party hat and just cut the top 2 inches off it to make a tiny hat. I taped a piece of elastic to the inside. Part of the fun of a birthday is to hunt down the cat and force him to wear the little hat. Whenever he sees the hat he hides under the bed. He gets really pissed off and totally hates it.....which makes it even more fun for me. The hat stays on him for about 30 seconds....just long enough for us to snap a picture of him wearing it.

If there are others in your neighborhood with friendly pets, I think it would be cool. You can get to know the neighbors better, maybe make some friends, and your pets can make friends too...just make sure your pets are friendly enough to socialize. :-)

Yes, I have and now he expects one every year. So now I have to do it for two dogs. And that makes me feel obligated to buy my cats presents on theirs too. But the dogs love the attention.
