When I turn my key to the "on" position (before it's started) my check engine light flashes 7 times and then stays on... is there a relevance between that and the on board computer having a trouble code?

Whenever you start your vehicle, your "check engine" light will come on for a few seconds to let you know the light is working. After that it should go out. Yours is staying on. As far as i know, there is nothing that can be read from how many times it flashes and the trouble code, unless it's doing that to tell you how many codes have been stored. You will have to have the codes retrieved to find out what they are trying to tell you. There are some auto parts stores that will read the codes for you. Keep in mind, though, whatever codes come up only point you in a direction, not necessarily telling you the sensor is bad. For instance, your O2 sensor is reading lean is telling you just that. It is reading your system is running lean. Many codes can tell you things, too. Like MAP sensor code, O2 sensor lean, Throttle position sensor fault, could all mean something as simple as a vacuum hose is cracked, loose, of disconnected. Good luck, and have fun.

Yes. It should come on for a few seconds to test the bulb then turn off.

You should be able to go to a website for your car and get the Code and what it means. Email me the year and make of car you have and I'll look it up for you if you want. 8-)

Number of flashes indicates certain trouble code. Take it to a mechanic.

What make & Model car?
Jeeps & Chyslers on some models can give you the error codes by blinking the service light.
