My ishta devata (personal name and form of God/the Divine/Holy One) is Ganesh. Although as a Hindu I believe that there is only one God and that all people, regardless of what name and/or form they give It worship the same God.

Ganesh is my ishta devata. Om Shree Ganesha. Jaya Shree Ganesha. Jaya Guru Ganesha. Namo. Namo. Ganesha Sharanam.
(translated it means : Oh Holy God. Hail Holy God. Hail God my teacher/guide. I bow. I bow. I seek refuge in God.)
In English all the Hindu deity names should just be translated as God. People have a tendency to not translate them and leave them (must like they do Allah which is just Arabic for God..even the Arabic speaking Christians call God "Allah"). I mean, the name Ganesh (like all the other deity names in Hinduism) is really just a title of the one God (like in Christianity Jesus is sometimes called "Prince of Peace" or "Lord of Love"). Ganesh, literally translated, means "Celestial Lord".

Thanks for asking the question and letting me talk about Ganesh.

Jai Ganesh!
(Hail God!)

Om Shanti
(Peace)

*if you don't like using the word God other alternatives are : Divine, Holy One, Goddess, Universal Self, Cosmic Consciousness, Supreme Soul, or whatever word you choose. As a Hindu I always remember the words of Shakespeare "what's in a name? Would a rose by any other name smell any less sweet?" Hindus agree, it doesn't matter what you call God because ultimately God is all names and forms and is also beyond all names and forms.

I do not see any point in worshipping. I do my duties and face the consequences or enjoy fruits of my own actions. I am not doing anything anti social, criminal, so why should i praise god/lord etc in any garb. If i am not committing any sin why should I bow in front of anything called god / lord. I believe in current life only. I do not want heaven. I am a human being and I will live like a human being. I believe in love, kindness, forgiving, brotherhood, equality, etc.

We are all part of a cosmic life force, which we can contact through our subconscious minds. That's what happens when you pray--you are programming your subconscious with what you want, and your subconscious contacts the life force, and an answer is revealed.

This life force is not an intelligent being, just a force of nature. It requires no worship.

I worship whatever I feel like at certain times, but NEVER God because it is to implausable to think that there is an all powerful being WITHOUT flaw.

God.

That's why I cannot fully commit to Buddhism, which generally rejects, but does not rule out, the existence of a separate Creator God. (Buddhism is often called an "atheistic religion".)
