Sounds like it was a panic attack. I am sure they checked out your heart to make sure that was ok too. If it continues you may want to consider something less additctive than Xanax, like Celexa or Zoloft.

Please get some other opinions. Panic attack symptoms can be like those of several other diesases and you want to be sure you don't have any of them before you are treated.
Women are often not diagnosed correctly because too many doctors find it easy to say"Oh she's just having a panic attack". Having said that, your symptoms do sound a lot like a panic attack. Each one makes another one more likely because of the adrenaline that is released during the attack. After you are sure you have no other illness, try exercise. Exercise is very good to do after a panic attack and drinking lots of water. This uses up and flushes the adrenaline and cortisol out of your system and make another attack less likely.
If you can't run, trying relaxing starting with your toes and moving slowly upward to your head over a 15-20 minute period.Imagine you are syrup on a table and feel yourself dripping over the table edges.
You may need some counseling and or meds to stop the attacks. Caffeine can cause them, so if you drink coffee, tea, or Cokes, drink decaff!
God luck to you.

When the heart beats too quickly, the ventricles do not have enough time to fill with blood and cannot effectively pump blood to the rest of the body. The lack of oxygen can cause: Heart skipping a beat Beating out of rhythm Palpitations Rapid heart action Shortness of breath Chest pain Dizziness Lightheadedness Blackouts Temporary blind spots Fainting or near fainting A-FIBS (Atrial fibrillation) is often asymptomatic, and is not in itself generally life-threatening, but could cause problems in the future. I would keep an eye on things, and if you ever experience an unsafe change of blood pressure or lose consciousness completely contact a medical professional iimmediately

I have panic disorder, and the above does sound like a possible panic attack. However, the best thing to do is find a medical doctor who will check you to rule out any other causes before he/she diagnoses you with panic attacks. My doctor did an EKG (heart rhythm reading,) echocardiogram (ultrasound of my heart to make sure it wasn't a problem with my mitral valve,) and drew blood which he tested for glucose levels and thyroid hormone levels. There are several things that can cause symptoms similar to panic attacks, so make sure that these ARE panic attacks first.
If your doctor rules out anything physical causing these attacks, the next step (well, the next step I took) is to seek out psychiatric help. Panic disorder can be controlled with SSRI (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) in many people - the attacks are caused by an imbalance/lack of serotonin. I have been on Lexapro for 4 years and haven't had one panic attack in that 4 years. WHAT a relief!
Some people find that counseling helps as well, though I just use the meds.
Regardless of what these "attacks" are, get to a doctor ASAP, because your quality of life will improve once you find out what they are/are not and how to treat them. I wish you luck!

Wow. Sounds like a panic attack. A friend of mine has had similar symptoms minus the shaking and slurred speech. He has had numerous tests and they just cannot find the answer. You may want to try a massage therapist and see if you can work some of that stress out. It may help quite a bit. Good luck to you!

I presume the hospital did an EKG to make sure you were not having an active heart attack. I echo previous response -- see your family doctor let him check for other physical illnesses. I have been in similar situation and not knowing what is happening is very scary. Once the doctor ruled out anything serious though it makes it easier to go thru the next time.

Most of those symptoms are included in a stroke also..Even a mini stroke will bring rather obvious results. Slurred speech being one of the more important ones.

my mom used to suffer from those alot, i remember, it was awful, and i have some type of it goingon myself, i feel the hospitals are right, if they get worse, or just want them to stop all together, but dont want to take prescription drugs, then first try changing your diet, and then check into natural pills that can be taken, some with alot of success from what i have read. hope this helps, i know how awful these things can be, take control of it NOW before it takes control of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
