Looking for a breed of cat that will most likely be a lap cat and love being cuddled. I would not like one who is TOO placid though. Low prey drive (for a cat) would be good too. Any suggestions on what breed? Looking for a purebred.

I have a purebred ragdoll and he is a sweetheart. He was given to me by my mother-in-law (she breeds ragdolls). My cat loves to be in my lap, he loves to cuddle with me at bedtime, and will even resort to getting into the tub with me, just to be near me. He loves to be picked up and held. He is a lowsy hunter as one day I saw a rat chasing him! He is also a major clown. He loves to run and jump onto my husband's bar stools and spin around. Once they stop spinning he gets down, backs up, and does it again. He does prefer the sofa chair but he will get up and chase a laser pointer until he gets bored. The only problem he has is he is a theif. He figured out how to open my nightstand and steal my phone, my watch and my necklace. Then he usually hides them in the sofa chair. I highly suggest getting a ragdoll because they are so much fun, and they are so good natured.

I think that a Ragdoll, Himalayan or Maine Coon would be top choices. A dear friend recently lost her Maine Coon cat, and she was the coolest cat ever, and especially cuddly and sweet. Remember to find a reputable breeder - you can get a much healthier animal most likely than any pet store and see the parents, or at least the mother, and talk with the breeder about any special needs the breed might have.

Pure bread ONLY IF I adopted it. Not buying from a breeder. I want to save it from the shelter or something. I have 4 Mixed Breeds I Love them. Have a little of 2 cats in 1!

RAGDOLL!!!! I just got one, they are known to be lap cats, they don't shed much, and they are indoor cats. My kitten is ALL of the above...and the best is that they like to lay in your arms like a doll...so cute!!!! You should do a google search to learn a bit more about them.

its not a breed thing, its a very individual personality kind of thing, you dont need a pure bred there are thousands of pets killed every day because someone wont care for them, there are 5 in my crawl space now that i cant get to. i could gleefully kill the azz who abandon them. and in indiana someone did the same thing to me with 22 cats. its so totaly sick .

Ragdolls and Persians are nice and laid back. We had a Persian that our daughter carried around in her arms all day. Then the Ragdoll cat is named that because it just flops around and when you pick it up it just lays on your shoulder and hangs over the side. Ours does. Big babies and so lovable.
