Islam teaches that it is the Muslim's duty to conquer the lands of non-believers and either forcibly convert them, force them to live in submission, or kill them.

Thank you all for your answers. This has been very enlightening and it has encouraged me to do more study into this subject. I have read a lot of convincing answers from both sides of the fence. With the exception of one or two this has been a very positive discussion in just the first hour.

Any religion is to be judged on the basis how they behave today. For example if you are a Christian and have three Muslim friends and two of them keeps good characters and one is a cruel person - then you will not say Muslims are bad. You will say that particular person is bad and Muslims are good. But, if all three and equally bad - then there is a possibility that you will say all Muslims are bad.

Today we need to know religions on the basis of their behaviour towards others. Here is the place where Islam fails. Their behaviours proves that what you quoted is right. The religion as a whole is supporting the moves.

I am living among majority Muslims and all of them were happy on 9/11 incident. What I should understand from it?

Koresh just picks up quotes from where it sounds like Islam is a violent religion, but you need to read in between the lines before these statements regarding, why was this said in the Quran. Non Believers those days were extremely violent with the Prophet, it was then God asked him to defend himself by killing them if they were a threath to the Prophet. Converting forcibily is absolutely wrong. In Gods words "Mohammad, I have chosen you only to make them believe there is only one God, if they dont understand, leave them, I will take care of them"
Its just like the judge sentencing a death penalty to a person. Wasn't there a reason for him to do so? Exactly it goes the same way. Mind you, husbands cant beat their wife's, they only have to tap them lightly and that too its the last resort, if they are disobedient and having extra marital affairs. God has said to talk to them 1st, secondly stop sleeping with them, in spite of all this they do not listen, then gently tap them on face. Divorce is the most hated by GOD. If you look up on the Prophets history, you will be amazed to see what all they did trying to kill him.

there is no force to convert non-believers into Islam and Islam always respect other religions.

see below from quran chapter 109 (surah al-kafirun):

say! o non-believers.
i worship not that which you worship.
nor will you worship that which i worship.
and i shall not worship that which you are worshiping.
not will you worship that which i worship.
to you be your religion and to me my religion.

i know that there are radical groups out there that are using Islam as the excuse even though Islam itself does not allow it...

and i also know non-muslims will answer this question quoting from quran only parts of verses which are talking about jihad, etc. the same way i can point out from torah and bible. and the same way i will argue please do research and homework to understand the whole concept. can i easily conclude torah and bible teach their believers to kill if i found a part of verses that say it?
a simple example, let's look into a statement "a policeman killed a man because the man had a gun on a woman's head and was ready to pull the trigger."
can i just conclude the policeman is wrong because he killed the man and just forget the latter part of the statement?
