First of all quit sounding like a dork. You're trying to make everything sound all "official." Just ask her out, nothing formal..."Do you want to go see that movie (with me) Friday?" Say the (with me) part so she'll know it's not a bring all your friends along date. If she goes out with you (alone) then she's ready to date.
Never ask: 1. So are we like dating now? 2. Is this relationship official? 3. Watch a few dating shows and copy the guys who do really well. 4. Don't ask emotional questions. 5. Don't ask about past relationships and don't bring up yours, although I doubt you have any from your gay question. 6. Take my advice, I KNOW what I'm talking about.

Asking a girl out and asking a girl if she is ready for a relationships are two different things. I would say try asking her about past relationships, and want she wants in the future in terms of relationships.
