Legally it is this: You can install the Operating System to 1 PC....right? Well yeah, but what happens if the PC is lost, stolen, sold, or replaced? You call Microsoft (on a 1-800 number that shows up if the intallation fails) and you will talk to a customer service representative. You tell this person what happened to your PC (hard drive got corrupted or whatever) and they will ask you for your current activation key....then they give you a new one and you enter it to your PC and you are good to go... Let me give you my experience......Back in 2003, bought WinXP....I sold the PC, formatted of course, and wante to install the CD to my new PC.. I put in the C and it failed and asked me to call some number... I did, and the above steps happened after I told the person on the phone that my pc was replaced. Good Luck :)

Your key only works with your disk. You either need to use the key for the disk you have, but if this copy has already been installed elsewhere it will fail to activate and destroy the activation on the disk, or just buy a new copy.

yes you can , you just have to ring M$ and get the code numbers, they will ask if you removed it from te other computer.
Alternativly you can just get a generic code number no one ever pays for xp
